The Chamber Defense Commission visits Sabca Charleroi

Oct 2016

On September 28th, 2016, members of the Chamber Defense Commission, led  by chairwoman Ms Karolien Grosemans, visited SABCA Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility in Gosselies (Charleroi).

During the facility tour, the Members of the Commission have been given the opportunity to see extensive maintenance operations on F-16 aircraft, coming from 4 different customer Countries.

In July 2016, the Flight Line Crew rolled out its 1300th F-16 from SABCA Charleroi.

The importance of the Belgian F16 program, as well as the related transfer of technology which has been induced, were illustrated and emphasized during the visit.

The F-16 program enabled the Belgium Aerospace Industry to make a technology and competitive leap, resulting in competitiveness, long term employment and value creation.  Furthermore, it allowed SABCA to position itself as a European Leader in Aerostructures and Actuation systems on civil aircraft and space markets.

It has also been mentioned to the Defense Commission that the F-16 replacement is a unique opportunity for Belgium industry to reinforce its competitive edge with respect to the international market and to ensure a strong and long-term future.

With strong shareholders (Dassault Group and GKN Aerospace/Fokker) and soon celebrating its first century in aerospace, SABCA 1200 highly motivated employees master all skills from early phases of “Build-to-Print” and “Build-to-spec” programs to full customer support.

SABCA is active in three markets: Civil Aviation, Space and Defense.

In Civil Aviation, competencies in design and manufacturing of complex metal and composite Aerostructures and advanced High-Lift mechanisms enabled SABCA to win numerous Airbus, Dassault Aviation and Gulfstream work packages as a tier-1 and tier-2 partner.

In Space, SABCA is single source for design and manufacturing of all Ariane 5 rocket engine Actuators, VEGA launcher and Ariane 6 complete Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system.

In Defense, SABCA offers high-end expertise in maintenance, repair and overhaul as well as modernization of military platforms and maintains most of the fleet of the Belgian armed forces. It also works with other European countries, as well as the US Air Force (USAFE), on the F-16.
